NBOB/BIS/BISS DC GCHG Sovereign’s Chasing Legends “Hobey”

“HOBEY” made Brittany history! He is the only Dual Champion to have won an all-breed Best in Show and the American Brittany Club National Specialty Show Best of Breed (from the field trial dog class).
Hobey has been a Top 10 Brittany and has won the ABCs Top 20 Invitational Competition. In 2018 Hobey was shown in Canada in one weekend he won three Sporting Group 1s, a Best in Show, and Best of Breed at the Brittany Spaniel Club of Canada.
We have the Burchett’s to thank for Hobey’s Field Trial Championship. Bob has done a fantastic job connecting with Hobey.
We are thrilled with how Hobey consistently produces sound and talented puppies. He has produced 50+ show champions, multiple hunt test titled dogs, agility titled dogs, Dual Champion, Regional Field Champion, Futurity Winners, and juvenile field trial winners.
Hobey is from the frozen semen breeding of Ch Alar’s the Rocketeer CD SH “Chase” and DC Sovereign Copley Kiss My Chips “Zelda”.
Hobey is fourth generation Dual Champion, and tenth generation Field Trial Champion. Hobey is a blessing to us in many ways – fun to show, a pleasure to hunt behind, but mostly a joy to have as a companion in our family. I just wish he wouldn’t take up so many covers on the bed!
Hobey is 15 years young, and enjoying life mostly from his dog beds. If I lose track of him outside I can find him at the quail Johnny House looking after “his” birds.
GFC GCHB DC AFC Sovereign’s Judge N Jury DJ VDE “JJ”

“JJ” went to Marcia and Chuck Lawrence as a puppy, and they were kind enough to let us co-own him. The Lawrence’s have given “JJ” every opportunity to excel in the field and in the show ring, and have allowed us to help with “JJ’s” successes.
“JJ” started his Dual ways by winning the American Brittany Club Eastern Futurity Dual Dog Award in 2020.
“JJ” racked up many titles in the first three years of his life – CH, FC, DC, GCH, and most recently finishing his Grand Field Championship (GFC), by winning Runner Up at the 2022 ABC National Gun Dog Championship with 55 entries.
Thanks to “JJ’s” many wins in 2022, including his win of the ABC Jim Hoyer Memorial Classic, he was awarded the 2022 American Brittany Club Magnum’s Masked Man Award (top gun dog award by points/wins)!
“JJ” was exclusively handled and trained in the field by Bob Burchett of Burchett Bird Dogs, but is now retired with Dawn & Joe.
“JJ” has already sired two Champions and will be used at stud by private treaty.
Watch for “JJ” in his occasional appearance competing in field trials, conformation, dock diving, and agility with Dawn.
GCHB SOVEREIGN’S DREAM HI LEGENDARY REIGN “Max”

“Max” is a Hobey son out of an Ashton (NBOB BIS BISS GCHP2 CH Dream Hi’s Don’t Hate The Player Hate The Game) daughter.
Thank you Kristina Rickard and Tyler Crady-Roche for allowing us to breed Ashly to Hobey to produce our sweet, tender hearted Max.
He was awarded Best in Sweepstakes at the American Brittany Club National Specialty Show in 2022 under long time Brittany breeder Mrs. Nancy Clendenen. It was an honor!
“Max” finished his Championship with all specialty majors.
Currently “Max” is living with Maria Oster, she’s doing a beautiful job showing “Max”, they are a great team. She is enjoying showing him limitedly, as her time allows.
“Hawkeye” is named for the orange on his tail, looks like a bullseye. “Hawkeye” is from a breeding we’ve been planning for over 2 years since we bought his mother “Flower” from Nick Blasi.
We bred “Flower” to “Hobey” and produced a wonderful litter of puppies.
“Hawkeye” has juvenile and adult FC points. We are enjoying watching him and Bob Burchett compete in the most competitive field trial circuit in the country.
“Hawkeye” was awarded 3rd at the Ed Powell Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Championship in the Spring of 2025.

“Farmer” is from our frozen semen breeding from BISS CH Alar’s the Rocketeer SH CD ROM “Chase”, we’ve been waiting many years to use this semen. We decided to inseminate our son Jake’s dog “Tinker” with “Chase’s” semen and were not disappointed. We are excited Jake is listed as breeder and co-owner of Farmer. It is exciting to add Jake as a third generation breeder/owner/exhibitor. “Farmer” is every bit a clown like his mother, and every bit as structurally sound and amazing as his dad.
“Farmer” finished his Championship with all Brittany Specialty Show majors and a Best in Sweepstakes!
We will be showing him limitedly until he grows up (mind more than body)!

His first weekend in the show ring earned him a Best in Sweepstakes and a 5 point major Specialty win.

We were so excited to breed our top producing bitch “Godiva” to GFC AFC Sniksoh Spanks Hank, bred/owned by Jeff Hoskins in CO.
“Clover” is as sweet as she is lovely! “Clover” has wonderful Brittany type, short backed, correct angulation, and beautiful movement. She finished her Championship with Joe at the helm.
“Clover” has not disappointed in the field! She has 4 puppy wins (3 First placements) and 2 Derby wins (1 First place). All of these wins before her first birthday.
Bob Burchett broker her out, and Joe is running her in Amateur stakes and Bob is running her in Open stakes.
She has been bred a couple of times, and has produced nice sound, talented puppies.

“Titus” was a special puppy! We knew he was going to be a great one. “Titus” won Best of Breed from the classes at the Iowa Brittany Club specialty show at 6 months and 4 days old.
We were excited to co-own “Titus” with Colleen Walsh. Colleen and “Titus” instantly bonded and were a great team.
In 2019, thanks to Colleen and her Team, “Titus” finished #1 BRITTANY in the Country!
“Titus'” list of accomplishments is long… 23 x Best in Specialty Winner, Multiple Sporting Group winner, Award of Excellence Westminster 2019, Award of Merit ABC National Specialty Show (2019, 2020, 2021), ABC Top 20 People’s Choice Winner (2020 and 2021), ABC Central Futurity Show Winner, and Best of Breed American Brittany Club Summer Specialty Show in 2018 and 2021.
“Titus” is having fun competing with Colleen (and team) from the Veterans Class. He has won many Veterans Sweepstakes and Specialty Best of Breed wins from the Veterans Class. We’re so proud of them both!
RFC DC Sovereign Legendary Power “Briggs”

“Briggs” comes with an almost 30 year relationship with the Ziegler’s. Doug and Christine bought their first Brittany from us almost 30 year ago. They wanted a family pet, Doug didn’t hunt, but they were going to have a family and wanted a good family dog. In 2014 they bought another dog from us, and in 2015 they bought their third dog from us (both Hobey ex Corvette kids). Doug decided to try Hunt Tests, and obtained his dogs’ Junior Hunter Titles. Then Doug started taking trips to South Dakota to pheasant hunt with his dogs. He became active with the Minnesota Brittany Club and is now President, and has coordinated an ABC booth at Pheasant Fest for several years.
Meanwhile, Doug and Christine have raised their kids, and now have a granddaughter. Doug approached me in 2021 and said he wanted to get a puppy with Dual Champion potential. In January 2022, just days away from Doug’s mother’s birthday, “Briggs” was born (Hobey ex Flower). Christine especially liked “Briggs” as a baby, and he became theirs at 8 weeks old. “Briggs” became their third Hobey son.
“Briggs” easily earned his puppy and derby points in 2022/2023, and then went through steadiness training the summer of 2023.
Meanwhile, during his breaks when he’s home, Doug and his daughter Hannah have shown “Briggs” themselves, and handily received “Briggs” Championship title.
Well, Briggs was anxious to show us how much he loves and understands the field trial game. In his first official adult season (he had just turned 2 years old), Spring 2024, he won the Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Prairie State Championship to earn his RFC (Regional Field Champion) title. Less than a month later, he won the Open Gun Dog stake at the Heart of IL Brittany Club trial to become a Field Champion / Dual Champion. Just a week later, while Bob was running dogs at the International Championships, we took “Briggs” to the American Brittany Club Eastern Futurity in Ionia, MI where “Briggs” earned 2nd money male in the Futurity Show, 1st in the All Age Futurity (with Joe showing and handling him), and was awarded Best Dual Dog in Futurity. “Briggs” came back to Iowa and placed 2nd in the Ed Powell Memorial Gun Dog Championship. What a whirlwind spring of 2024 for “Briggs”!
When the Ziegler’s took that baby home, we sure couldn’t guess he could do so much, so fast. Thank you Doug and Christine for allowing this boy to do what he loves to do, even though you miss him terribly when he’s gone. And of course, thank you Bob Burchett for excellent care, training, and handling!
BISS GCHS Sovereign’s Dream Hi Legendary King of Country “George”
DOB 8/23/2021
“George” is a Hobey son, from Kristina Rickard’s and Tyler Crady’s “Ashton” daughter “Ashly”. He is one of four in the litter to finish his Championship. He and his brother “Max” are being campaigned in the show ring.
Kami got “George” as a baby and has raised him, trained and conditioned him, to be a top Brittany in the country.
“George” finished 2024 as a Top 10 Brittany in the country!
We’re so thankful and proud of “George” and Kami – they are fun to watch!
“PAPPY” was a repeat breeding with “Hank” and “Godiva”. While we had no intention of selling him, along came the Hickman’s from CA. Jeff and Evelyn have lived up to their commitment and given “Pappy” nothing but the best of opportunities, from having “Pappy” with the Azevedo’s in CA as a juvenile dog (obtaining juvenile points), and then back to Bob Burchett to hone “Pappy’s” abilities.
Soon after coming back to Burchett Bird Dogs, Pappy won the Gun Dog stake at the 2023 American Brittany Club Central Futurity, with impressive competition.
After completing summer camp with Bob, “Pappy” came out swinging and won the Open Gun Dog Stake at the Hawkeye Brittany Club trial in Oct 2023 to earn his major.
In Spring of 2024, just after his 3rd birthday, “Pappy” came on strong. He earned a placement in January at the Greater St Louis Trial in Open Gun Dog, then a month later he placed 4th in the GOLGD Prairie State Championship.
Well, “Pappy” was just ramping up, because at the Ron Zook Memorial Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Championship he won FIRST place to add two titles to his name – RFC (Regional Field Champion) and that also completed his FC (Field Championship).
Summer of 2024, we showed Pappy a total of 5 weekends to finish his Championship / Dual Championship.
We couldn’t be more proud of this young dog and we appreciate the Hickman’s following through and giving “Pappy” the opportunity to do what he loves.

DC GCH Sovereign’s Hanky Panky “Ollie”
DOB 1/21/21 | Pedigree
“Ollie” is a product of our Hank ex Cocoa Bean breeding.
A lovely lady from PA called me wanting a puppy with dual potential. Lots of puppies have potential as a baby, but few mature out as well and as fast as “Ollie”. “Ollie” has spent time at Burchett Bird Dogs nurturing his natural abilities as a bird dog. After several juvenile placements, Ollie decided to really turn the corner at the Iowa field trial in April 2022, as a 14 month old. He not only won the 14 dog Puppy stake, but also came out on top of the 28 dog Derby stake. To round out that weekend, he also captured a show major at the Iowa Brittany Club Specialty Show. Late Spring 2022 Janet finished “Ollie’s” Show Championship.
After spending the summer of 2022 at Burchett Bird Dogs, “Ollie” was on fire at the fall field trials, he was awarded 1st place in his first three Open Gun Dog stakes with over 25 dogs entered each stake to finish his DUAL CHAMPIONSHIP. He also placed 4the in the Iowa GOLGD hour stake and 3rd in the Jim Hoyer Memorial ABC Hour Classic.
“Ollie” will continue in the field with Bob Burchett, and will continue with his Dual ways. A heartfelt Thank You to Janet Lioy for allowing this boy to do what he was born to do!
“Ollie” had an amazing 2024, with many placements, including a 1st and 2nd placement in Grand Open Limited Stakes. He was posted at the Gun Dog Nationals to finish up his year.
GCH Sovereign’s Legendary Rascal “Alvin”

This handsome guy finished his Championship at 9 months of age and finished his Grand Championship at 15 months.
“Alvin” is not just a pretty face, his juvenile field career has also been stellar! He earned his puppy points right out of the gate, was awarded 3rd at the American Brittany Club National Derby Invitational, and earned his derby points at the Prairie State Championship trial – all before the age of 18 months. Thanks to Burchett Bird Dogs!
“Alvin” was awarded Runner Up at the Ed Powell Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Championship in the Spring of 2025 for his first two adult points, at 2 years of age.
We are excited to share “Alvin” with Janet Lioy and Andrew Greubel, who also co-own “Ollie”. We appreciate Janet and Andrew giving this boy the best opportunities to succeed!
We are excited to co-own “Biscuits” with Steph and Chris Meyer.
“Biscuits” and “Ollie” are littermates from our 2021 litter from GFC AFC Sniksoh Spanks Hank ex Sovereign’s Dark Chocolate JH (Godiva daughter).
“Biscuits” completed her show Championship as a 2 year old, and completed her Field Championship/Dual Championship at 3 years of age!
She is handled by Steph and Dawn in the show ring, she is handled by Diane Vater and Chuck Cooper in the field trial open stakes, and handled by Chris in the field trial amateur stakes.
We are looking forward to lots more competitions with this little pocket rocket and also seeing how she “competes” in the whelping box, but with a wonderful mother and grandmother she’s a sure thing!
RAFC DC AFC Sovereign’s Legendary Cowboy JH “Duke”
DOB 10/18/2017 | BS-18734E26M | Pedigree
We sold “Duke” to Matt Weldele as a puppy. We invited Matt to enter “Duke” in some Hunt Tests and a walking Field Trial. Duke easily earned his Junior Hunter and several puppy/derby win/placements, Matt decided he wanted to send Duke out with Bob Burchett to determine Duke’s potential. Duke went to summer camp with Bob Burchett and finished his Field Championship in one season (2 weeks after his 2 year old birthday).
“Duke” won 2nd in the Nebraska Brittany Club Trial for 2 points, 4th in the Grand Open Limited Gun Dog hour stake at Hawkeye Brittany Club Trial, 1st in the LaSalle Brittany Club trial for 5 points, and 1st in the Midwest Brittany Club Trial for 5 points.
“Duke” finished his DUAL CHAMPIONSHIP in 2021 when he finished his Show Championship with a 3, 4, and 5 point major!
In Spring 2024 “Duke” and Matt decided to put on a show and WON the Tommy Thomas Memorial Grand Amateur Limited Gun Dog Championship, hosted by the International Brittany Club in Thayer Iowa. This finished “Duke’s” Amateur Field Championship and gave him two new titles – AFC RAFC. Matt and “Duke” work as an incredible team, thanks to Matt’s tenacity and Bob Burchett’s tutelage.
“Duke” enjoys going to work with Matt and trying to mooch treats off everyone in the office, and heading off for hunting weekends with Matt.
CH Sovereign Crosscreek Legendary LRRP “Ranger”
DOB 1/31/22 | Pedigree
“Ranger” is a “Hobey” son, bred by Dr Barb Pepin of Crosscreek Brittanys. We are excited to co-own “Ranger” with Steph & Chris Meyer.
They use Diane Vater and Chuck Cooper as their field trainer/handler. “Ranger” finished his Championship easily with majors on a specialty show weekend.
Look for this handsome guy with Steph in the show ring when he’s not on the field trial circuit.

Sovereign’s Legendary Outlaw “Waylon”

“Waylon” is proud to be one of the Weldele boys!

“TINKER” is from Sally’s (Hobey ex Corvette) first litter, bred to Ch Hope’s Ranger Rick.
“Tinker” is co-owned with our son Jake, and lives with him.
Jake finished “Tinker’s” Junior Hunter title handily, and is Jakes personal hunting dog.
At 6 months old “Tinker” was awarded a specialty major at the Greater Milwaukee Brittany Club Specialty Show, and Jake handled her to another major at the Minnesota Brittany Club Specialty Show.
“Tinker” produced some lovely puppies, being bred to “Hobey”, “JJ”, and “Chase”. She is officially retired from the whelping box and is living her best life with Jake.
BISS CH Sovereign’s Dirt on my Boots “Danner”

We bred Cocoa Bean to GFC/AFC Sniksoh Spanks Hank and had a wonderful litter, from which came “Danner” and “Biscuits” and “Ollie”. We co-own “Danner” with our son Zach.
“Danner” finished his Championship in three show weekends, with a specialty Best in Sweepstakes and a specialty BEST OF BREED from the classes.
Zach is having great hunting adventures with “Danner”!
GCH CH Sovereign’s Final Verdict “Gavel”
