Dual CH & Champions – Sovereign Brittany

DC SOVEREIGN’S MIND YOUR OWN BISCUITS “Biscuits”

DOB 1/21/2021 | OFA BS-20689G53F | Pedigree

National Specialty Winner - Best in Show

“Biscuits” is Sovereign Brittanys 10th Dual Champion!

We had intended to keep “Biscuits”, but when Steph came over to visit baby “Biscuits” at our trailer at the Weimaraner field trial in Wisconsin in the Spring of 2021, we knew it was a match made in heaven! We eagerly agreed to co-own “Biscuits” with Steph & Chris Meyer. We have been friends for many years, and happy to share a lovely and talented puppy with them.

Bisquit

Chris & Steph added “Biscuits” to their line up of National Championship and Amateur National Championship winning Weimaraners, and National Championship winning Pointer. They use Diane Vater and Chuck Cooper for their trainer/handler, and we knew Biscuits would be in great hands with Diane & Chuck.

Steph and I finished “Biscuits” in the show ring, easily earning her Championship when she was home on breaks from field work.

“Biscuits” finished her Field Championship/Dual Championship (at 3 years old) by earning a 5 point major Open Gun Dog Win at the Michigan Brittany Club field trial.

Huge thank you to Steph & Chris for taking a chance on “Biscuits”, and thank you Diane & Chuck for expert training/conditioning/handling of “Biscuits”!

RFC DC SOVEREIGN’S TOP SHELF “Pappy”

DOB 1/23/2021 | OFA BS-20340G39M | Pedigree

Pappy show stack

“Pappy” is Sovereign Brittanys 9th Dual Champion!

“PAPPY” was a repeat breeding with “Hank” and “Godiva”. While we had no intention of selling him, along came the Hickman’s from CA. Jeff and Evelyn have lived up to their commitment and given “Pappy” nothing but the best of opportunities, from having “Pappy” with the Azevedo’s in CA as a juvenile dog (obtaining juvenile points), and then back to Bob Burchett to hone “Pappy’s” abilities.

Pappy in the Field

Soon after coming back to Burchett Bird Dogs, Pappy won the Gun Dog stake at the 2023 American Brittany Club Central Futurity, with impressive competition.

After completing summer camp with Bob, “Pappy” came out swinging and won the Open Gun Dog Stake at the Hawkeye Brittany Club trial in Oct 2023 to earn his major.

In Spring of 2024, just after his 3rd birthday, “Pappy” came on strong. He earned a placement in January at the Greater St Louis Trial in Open Gun Dog, then a month later he placed 4th in the GOLGD Prairie State Championship.

Well, “Pappy” was just ramping up, because at the Ron Zook Memorial Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Championship he won FIRST place to add two titles to his name – RFC (Regional Field Champion) and that also completed his FC (Field Championship).

Summer of 2024, we showed Pappy a total of 5 weekends to finish his Championship / Dual Championship.

We couldn’t be more proud of this young dog and we appreciate the Hickman’s following through and giving “Pappy” the opportunity to do what he loves.

RFC DC Sovereign Legendary Power “Briggs”

DOB 1/1/22 | OFA BS-20378G30M | Pedigree

National Specialty Winner - Best in Show

“Briggs” wasted no time in becoming Sovereign Brittanys’ # 8 Dual Champion at just 2 years and 2 months of age! When Doug and Christine Ziegler came to us for their fourth Brittany (in 25 years), and said they were willing to give this dog an opportunity to be a competitive field trial dog, we were thrilled!

“Briggs” had no trouble earning his juvenile points, and then broke out easily. When he was home on breaks, Doug and his daughter Hannah showed “Briggs” in conformation and easily earned his Championship.

Briggs Final

We coached Doug and Christine on how they would need to be patient and it would take time for their puppy to grow up, learn the ropes, and be a competitive field trial dog.

Well, “Briggs” said “watch this” in early 2024, as he proceeded to win the Grand Open Limited Gun Dog Prairie State Championship (earning his RFC title), and a month later he won the Open Gun Dog stake at the Heart of IL Brittany Club trial to become a Field Champion / Dual Champion. Then for frosting on the cake, a week later we took “Briggs” to the American Brittany Club Eastern Futurity in Ionia, MI where “Briggs” earned 2nd money male in the Futurity Show, 1st in the All Age Futurity, and was awarded Best Dual Dog in Futurity. We brought him back to Bob in Iowa and he placed 2nd in the Ed Powell Memorial Gun Dog Championship. Wow “Briggs”, you impressed us all!

Thank you Bob for all your work with “Briggs” and your care and handling not only with the dogs, but with all of us people too! Thank you Doug and Christine for allowing your boy to do what he loves!

DC GCH CH Sovereign’s Hanky Panky “Ollie”

DOB 1/21/21 | OFA 20632E51M |Pedigree

Ollie in the Field

In record time, “Ollie” became Sovereign Brittanys 7th home bred Dual Champion, at just 20 months of age.

We sold “Ollie” to Janet Lioy at 8 weeks of age. Janet was full of reservations, but we assured her “Ollie” was a great prospect. Thanks to Janet’s nurturing and the field training and handling of Bob Burchett, “Ollie” was a barn burner early on.

At the Iowa Brittany Club trial in the Spring of 2022, at under 15 months of age, “Ollie” won the Puppy Stake and the Derby Stake for his 4 juvenile points, and the same weekend earned Winners Dog at the Iowa Brittany Club Specialty Show for a major towards his show championship.

Ollie Dual Show

The summer of 2022 Janet made sure “Ollie” finished his Show Championship easily, and then headed back to Burchett Bird Dogs to be broke. To our delight, “Ollie” WON his first three Open Gun Dog stakes with over 25 dogs entered every stake. He also placed 4th place in the Iowa Grand Open Limited Hour Gun Dog Stake and 3rd in the Jim Hoyer Memorial American Brittany Club Hour Classic.

Thank you Janet for giving “Ollie” the chance to be an amazing Dual Dog! Thank you Janet for allowing us to stay on “Ollie” to enjoy this incredible journey. This young dog is just getting started, he will be a fun one to watch. “Ollie” will continue in the field with Bob Burchett, and will continue with his Dual ways.

A heartfelt Thank You to Janet Lioy for allowing this boy to do what he was born to do!

JJ in the Field Dual Champion

Marcia and Chuck Lawrence as a puppy, and they were kind enough to let us co-own him. The Lawrence’s have given “JJ” every opportunity to excel in the field and in the show ring, and have allowed us to help with “JJ’s” successes.

“JJ” started his Dual ways by winning the American Brittany Club Eastern Futurity Dual Dog Award in 2020.

“JJ” racked up many titles in the first three years of his life – CH, FC, DC, GCH, and most recently finishing his Grand Field Championship (GFC), by winning Runner Up at the 2022 ABC National Gun Dog Championship with 55 entries.

Thanks to “JJ’s” many wins in 2022, including his win of the ABC Jim Hoyer Memorial Classic, he was awarded the 2022 American Brittany Club Magnum’s Masked Man Award (top gun dog award by points/wins)!

JJ Masked

“JJ” was exclusively handled and trained in the field by Bob Burchett of Burchett Bird Dogs, but is now retired with Dawn & Joe.

“JJ” has already sired two Champions and will be used at stud by private treaty.

Watch for “JJ” in his occasional appearance competing in field trials, conformation, dock diving, and agility with Dawn.

JJ in the Field Dual Champion

We sold “Duke” to Matt Weldele as a puppy. We invited Matt to enter “Duke” in some Hunt Tests and a walking Field Trial. Duke easily earned his Junior Hunter and several puppy/derby win/placements, Matt decided he wanted to send Duke out with Bob Burchett to determine Duke’s potential. Duke went to summer camp with Bob Burchett and finished his Field Championship in one season (2 weeks after his 2 year old birthday).

“Duke” won 2nd in the Nebraska Brittany Club Trial for 2 points, 4th in the Grand Open Limited Gun Dog hour stake at Hawkeye Brittany Club Trial, 1st in the LaSalle Brittany Club trial for 5 points, and 1st in the Midwest Brittany Club Trial for 5 points.

JJ Masked

“Duke” finished his DUAL CHAMPIONSHIP in 2021 when he finished his Show Championship with a 3, 4, and 5 point major!

In Spring 2024 “Duke” and Matt decided to put on a show and WON the Tommy Thomas Memorial Grand Amateur Limited Gun Dog Championship, hosted by the International Brittany Club in Thayer Iowa. This finished “Duke’s” Amateur Field Championship and gave him two new titles – AFC RAFC. Matt and “Duke” work as an incredible team, thanks to Matt’s tenacity and Bob Burchett’s tutelage.

“Duke” enjoys going to work with Matt and trying to mooch treats off everyone in the office, and heading off for hunting weekends with Matt.

We would like to thank Judy Tighe (Hope Brittanys) for allowing us to use frozen semen from DC Hope’s Tap-A-Keg to make this breeding to our “Godiva” possible! Thank you owners Barbara and Wayne Pepin for allowing “Jackson” to shine with Burchett Bird Dogs!

DC Sovereign Copley Kiss My Chips
(# 515 ABC Dual Champion)

Zelda on Point

We are the breeders of “Zelda”, she’s also out of our lovely girl “Classy” (same dam as DC “JR”) and the talented and handsome “Vegas” – Dual Champion AFC Roja’s Gambling Chips.

We sold “Zelda” to Robin Tomasi of Copley Brittanys as an 8 week old puppy. We are grateful to Robin for all the opportunities she gave “Zelda” – she became a Dual Champion by 2 1/2 years of age, in the Top 10 Show Brittanys and Top 10 Gun Dogs in the same year, and was a multiple Best in Specialty Show winner.

Robin generously leased “Zelda” back to us so we could breed her to BISS CH Alar’s the Rocketeer CD SH, which produced our third Dual Champion “Hobey”.

“JR” was our first breeder/owner DUAL CHAMPION. We bred our lovely “Classy” CH Sovereign’s Classical Code JH (Winners bitch at both the National Specialty Show and the ABC Summer Specialty) to the talented and handsome “TJ” – Dual Champion, National Champion, AFC Tequila’s Joker (who has since been inducted into the ABC Hall of Fame).

“JR” finished his Show Championship quickly, and was sent to Jim John to start his field career. Ed Tillson (of Tequila Kennels, owner of “JR’s” sire “TJ”) took over the training and handling of “JR” and finished his DC in 2006. Steve Ralph ran “JR” in Amatuer, and finished his Amateur Field Championship.
